The Kollam Co-operative Spinning Mills Ltd was established as an Industrial Co-operative Society under the Co-operative Societies Act on February 13, 1976, operating under the governance of the Industries Department. The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone occurred on August 26, 1978, with the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri A.K. Antony presiding over the event. Production at the Mills commenced in October 1983, reaching full operational capacity in February 1986. The formal inauguration took place on February 11, 1986, with the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Late Shri K. Karunakaran, officiating the event, and Shri E. Ahamed serving as the Minister for Industries.

During its initial phases, the Mills received invaluable guidance from the founder chairman, Late Shri P. RAVINDRAN, who was supported by eminent political figures such as Late Shri R.S. Unny, Shri C.V. Padmarajan, Shri P.K. Gurudasan, and Shri J. Chitharenjan – all former Ministers of the State.

The Kollam Co-operative Spinning Mills Ltd stands as one of the oldest Co-operative Spinning Mills in the state, strategically located at Karamcode, 22 kilometres from Kollam and 56 kilometres from Trivandrum. With a robust 25,000 spindle capacity, our Spinning Mills specializes in the production of 62's carded cotton yarn, 46s, 47s, 50s, 56s, 60s, 62s and 67s PC yarn.

Beyond its industrial achievements, the Mill has successfully fulfilled its Corporate Social Responsibility by directly providing employment opportunities to 500 individuals in the Kollam District's remote area. As an industrial unit, it has become a catalyst for socio-economic changes in and around Chathanoor Grama Panchayat, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

On February 3, 2021, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, inaugurated the commissioning of 7296 spindles of machinery. The event, presided over by the Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Sports, and Youth Affairs, Shri. E.P. Jayarajan, featured the participation of distinguished dignitaries. On the same day, Phase – I of the NCDC Assisted Modernization Scheme was successfully completed, with 7296 spindles installed. Operational training and trial production commenced on February 17, 2021, leading to the initiation of commercial production in alignment with the training. The first load was delivered on March 29, 2021. Presently, the mill boasts a workforce of 112 permanent employees.

Concurrently, the implementation of Phase – II, encompassing the next 7296 spindles, is currently underway. Modernization of the winding department has been achieved through the integration of state-of-the-art machinery. The incorporation of essential additions and other ancillary/allied machineries for the proposed 7296 spindles is in progress, with an anticipated completion date in the near future. This ongoing effort is a part of the NCDC assisted modernization initiative, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the mill.

Despite the fluctuations in the country's textile industry, the Kollam Co-operative Spinning Mills Ltd has demonstrated resilience and strength, persisting for over three decades. Overcoming financial challenges, the mill continues to thrive under the capable leadership of the active social worker and politician, Shri. A.R. Bashee, serving as Chairman, and Shri Umesh Krishnan, assuming the role of Managing Director. Their guidance ensures the continued success and sustainability of the Kollam Co-operative Spinning Mills Ltd Co-operative Spinning Mills in the face of industry challenges.
